FFBE Script part 167: Shooting Star
Previously...
CHAOTIC DARKNESS - SHOOTING STAR - THE ABYSS 1
(Balls of light streak forward and hit the Chaotic Darkness. The scene then shifts to the part, standing t the prow on the Invincible.)
Nichol: The Chaotic Darkness... The light is striking its body.
Rain: Yeah. Everyone's prayers have reached it.
(There is a sound. Blackened, purple light creeps into the scene from the north, then disappears. Lid reacts with a ! over her head.)
Lid: Look! The barrier that was protecting it has been broken!
Lasswell: Let's do it, Rain! We should be able to defeat it now!
Rain: That's right! We can't let everyone down now!
Nichol: Sakura, are you going to be all right?
Sakura: Yes. I've still got some strength in me. You know, though... when we first met, I didn't ever think the day would come when you all would have to worry about me.
(She gets a (...) over her head.)
Sakura: But... I suppose it is a good thing. Having others care enough to worry about you.
Nichol: Then please allow us to continue worrying about you in the future. But first we must win this battle.
Lid: Jake? I've got just one favor to ask you.
Jake: And what is that, my lovely Lid?
Lid: When this battle is over with, I want you to come to Dilmagia and ride on the airship I build. And when we're up in the sky together, we'll share a toast.... And then after that...
Jake: Hold on there, darling. That's beginning to sound like more than just one favor. But... all right.
(He gives a thumbs-up.)
Jake: Once this battle is over with, I'll be happy to fulfill your every dream.
Lid: My... every dream... *gulp*
(The driving music stops as Fina turns from the prow.)
Fina: ...The other Fina... if you can still hear me somehow... Please give me strength. I can't lose this battle. Not this one.
(The scene darkens so only Fina is visible.)
Dark Fina: Don't worry. You won't. You've really become strong. You aren't that same naive kid who came out of that crystal. Don't ever give up. Believe in yourself until the end. That'll be my gift to you. Protect them all... Protect Rain.
(The scene whitens.)
Dark Fina: Be strong. My other self...
(The scene now returns to the party in full.)
Fina: I will. I promise. Thank you. I won't let you down.
(Fina draws her bow. The Chaotic Darkness descends into the scene, and everyone prepares for battle.)
Rain: Let's go, everybody! This is finally it! The last battle!
(Battle begins!)
CHAOTIC DARKNESS - SHOOTING STAR - THE ABYSS 2
Rain: We did it! We beat the Chaotic Darkness!
Lid: Evan! Turn the Invincible to the gate now!
Rain: Now we just have to close that gate!
(The ship shakes, and the scene shows the gate briefly, then returns to the deck of the airship.)
Rain: You're up, Dad! Tell us how we close the gate!
(Raegen walks forward a few steps.)
Raegen: No problem... You can leave it up to me.
Lasswell: Hold on... Sir Raegen... I trust you aren't about to insist that you will close it in exchange for your life or anything.
Fina: Wha...?
Raegen: Well, would there be any point in trying to deny it now? After all this? I'm not going to lie. It's risky. I might die. But even so I've still got to do it.
(A golden light emits from him, blinding out the scene for a second. When the scene returns he's outlined in a white light and appears to be floating off the ground.)
Rain: That's the blood of Aldore's power when it's awoken...
Raegen: This is a complete awakening. I'm not holding anything back now. This is something you can't do yet, Rain.
Sakura: In that state, you should be able to negate the magic pouring out of the gate. If it loses the magic stores sustaining it now, even temporarily, the gate will collapse back in on itself.
Raegen: Simple as that. Don't worry. I'm not planning on dying today. This'll work. Once this battle is done with, I intend to go back home with my two sons and live a long life together.
Rain: Sure, that's what you say now. But once everything's peaceful, you know you'll be right out the door and embarking on some adventure again.
Raegen: Ha ha ha! You may be right about that.
(He floats closer to Rain.)
Raegen: Then you'll just have to come with me. This time we'll go on an adventure together.
Rain: ...I guess I could settle for that.
Raegen: So for now, just trust me.
(He flies backward to the railing.)
Lid: Wha... So the power of Aldore even lets you guys fly!?
Raegen: I'm off, everybody. But just for a little while.
(Lasswell rushes to him.)
Lasswell: W...wait!
Raegen: What is it? Lasswell.
Lasswell: Be... be careful. Dad.
Raegen: ...Yeah. I will. Thank you, Lasswell.
(Raegen flies upward. We see the gate, then Raegen in mid-air, streaks of magic flowing past him from the gate. He holds out a hand and sends forth a beam of golden light.)
Raegen: All right. With this...
(More streaks of magic, and he sends another beam.)
Raegen: Ngh...!
(The streaks continue, and he sends forth two more beams.)
Reagen: There doesn't seem to be an end to it. If this goes on too long... My power won't hold out...
(HE sends forth another beam.)
Raegen: But... that doesn't change a thing. Even if this is where I breathe my last... Sophia... Rain... Lasswell...
(HE readies to send forth another beam.)
Raegen: Please give me strength...
(He shoots two beams. The scene shifts to the deck of the Invincible, where the party watches.)
Rain: What's happening? His attacks are getting weaker.
Sakura: This is not good. It may be that Raegen used up too much of his power in the battles leading up to this one.
Lid: Wait... Do you mean it's not going to work?
Sakura: ...I do not know. Which will run out of power first? Raegen or the gate? At this rate... I fear that..
Rain: ...
(Rain backs up from the railing. A golden glow envelopes him. It's not as strong as the glow that awakened Raegen, though.)
Lasswell: Rain!
Rain: I'm going to help him.
Lid: B-but... Didn't Sir Raegen say that he had to completely awaken his power to fight against that thing?
(Rain nods.)
Rain: I can do it. Just watch.
Sakura: Rain. I understand how difficult it is to stand on the sidelines and do nothing, but this...
Rain: It's not just that. If I stand by and do nothing now, the world might end. I have to do this.
Fina: Rain...
Rain: Fina, I promise. It's going to be okay. Believe in me.
(Lasswell bows his head.)
Lasswell: ...
Rain: Come on, Lasswell. What's with that face? You know me better than anyone. You know what I can do.
Lasswell: I do...
Rain: So leave this up to me.
(Lasswell looks up at Rain again.)
Lasswell: I will. But, Rain. Not before I say one last thing. Remember what it means to protect others. You must also protect them from sorrow.
Rain: Yeah. I'm not going to make anybody cry. I promise I'm coming back. You have my word.
(A brief pause, then...)
Rain: Aaauuuuuugh!
(Rain completes his awakening, and flies off into the sky. The scene shifts to Raegen, where beams of magic still stream down around him.)
Raegen: Hah... Hah... Damn... Everything is... going black... Is this... the end...?
(Rain flies into view.)
Rain: You're looking a bit ragged, old man.
Raegen: Rain!? You fool... Why would you...?
Rain: If you want to scold me, do it later. I think we'd better focus on closing that gate for now.
Raegen: Do you even realize the risk that you--
Rain: Like father, like son. If you're gonna put your life on the line, then I might as well do the same. Now, stop wasting time, Dad. Let's close this gate together.
Raegen: Yeah. Let's do that.
(They hold out their hands and send forth a powerful beam of light together.)
Rain: All right! It's working! If we can keep this up...
Raegen: Rain.... You... In the final hour you actually managed to pull off a complete awakening... I guess.... there really is no fighting what's in your blood.
(They send forth another beam together.)
Rain: The gate's starting to close! We did it! It worked!
Raegen: Yeah... Rain. We won. We really did it.
Sol: No. The gate will not close.
(They both react with a ! over their heads, and the camera pans to Sol.)
Rain: Sol!?
Sol: I told you. Did I not, Rain? You and I cannot exist in harmony. I will destroy you, without fail.
(Sol glows.)
Sol: Behold! I will give everything I have, everything that I am, to keep open the gate! Open! Open ever wider! Bring ruin to this world, as it should be!
Raegen: I-impossible.... That madman... He's actually giving his own life to keep the gate open!? Damn it! If he succeeds, the gate will open even further than before!
Rain: Ngh! Like I'm gonna let that happen!
(Rain flies off. He and Sol clash, in brilliant light. There's a series of grunts from them, too fast to capture, and the scene obliterates. The camera then pans back to Raegen.)
Raegen: ...Rain.
(The camera shifts to the deck of the airship.)
Lid: No... way... But...
(Raegen lands on the deck, and stops glowing.)
Sakura: Raegen. What of Rain...?
Raegen: ...Rain is gone.
Fina: Th-that can't... be...
(Fina walks a step, then collapses.)
Fina: Rain... Why... Why would you leave us?
(Sakura goes to Fina's side.)
Nichol: Raaaaaaiiin! Rain! RAIN!
(Nichol too collapses to his knees.)
Nichol: Say something! Answer me, damn it! You're still out there somewhere, aren't you!? You wouldn't let yourself die just like that!
(Nichol jumps to his feet and looks around.)
Nichol: You wouldn't! So answer me! Please... answer me...
(Jake crouches and punches the deck with his fist.)
Jake: That... That idiot...
Lid: No! This isn't how it was supposed to be! Rian's not supposed to die!
(Lid has covered her face with her hands.)
Lid: R-Rain... *sob* You can't do this to us...
Lasswell: ...
(Lasswell turns and walks off screen. Fina stands.)
Fina: Lasswell?
(Fin walks after Lasswell, who's standing near the back of the ship.)
Lasswell: I'm certain of it. Rain isn't dead. He is undoubtedly still alive.
Fina: What?
Lasswell: After all, Rain promised me that he would return.
Fina: ...
Lasswell: It will be all right. No matter how bad of a mess he gets himself into, Rina comes back with an easy smile on his face. That is the Rain I know. Isn't that the Rain that you know as well?
(Fina take a step towards Lasswell.)
Fina: Yeah... Yeah, it is.
Lasswell: But... if he is hurt so badly that he cannot come back to us on his own... Then I will go to him. Wherever he is. I swear.
(The camera pans up, and the scene ends.)
CHAOTIC DARKNESS - SHOOTING STAR - EPILOGUE
A few months later...
(A CGI movie starts: Raegen and Lasswell on an airship. Fina approaches, waving at them. The father and son look at each other.)
(The movie ends and now the two are walking on broken ground.)
Raegen: Lasswell. We might as well start the search here.
Lasswell: Yes, sir.
(Lasswell has his hair pulled up in a ponytail, and his katana and Rain's sword are crossed on his back. The two begin to search the nearby area. Raegen spots something and gets a (...) over his head. Lasswell approaches him, then they both react with a ! over their heads at something off screen. The scene shifts, showing the two ready for battle against four dark-armored centaur-like enemies.)
Lasswell: Who are these interlopers?
Raegen: I've never seen their like before... But we won't let anything stop us here.
Lasswell: No. We will find Rain at once.
Raegen: That's right. Let's cut straight through these fools. Let's go, Lasswell!
Lasswell: Yes, Father!
(They strike through the enemies. A dialogue appears:)
