Previous entry...
Memories of the Left Behind (story)
Fina: Thanks for taking me here. I'll go the rest of the way on my own.
Lasswell: There are still many monsters around here. I'll accompany you to the shrine.
Fina: No, I'll be fine on my own. I have to rely on my own strength. Besides.... If I keep relying on you, Lasswell, my other self will just laugh at me.
Lasswell: ...I see. Promise me you'll be careful.
Fina: Yup! See you later!
(Fina leaves.)
Lasswell(...): (She's so much stronger than she used to be.)(What happened with Rain must be hard to bear, but she's not letting any of it show in front of me....)
Lasswell: I can't let Fina outdo me. At the very least, I have to become worthy of the Crimson Saber that Rain left behind.
(Lasswell is walking in Grandshelt. He's got his hair pulled back. Two Grandshelt soldiers spot him and get a ! over their heads.)
Grandshelt Soldier A: Is that you.... Commander Lasswell?
Lasswell: You guys...
Grandshelt Soldier A: It's Commander Lasswell! Hey, everyone! Commander Lasswell's here!
(Soldiers gather round.)
Grandshelt Soldier B: Aaah! It really is you, Commander Lasswell! You've returned!
Grandshelt Soldier C: Commander Lasswell!? No kidding? It's really him?
Lasswell: H-hey, wht do you guys think you're doing?
Grandshelt Soldier A: Okay, sorry about that. But we're really glad to see you. Aren't we?
Grandshelt Soldier B: I joined the same time you did, Commander Lasswell, and I've always thought you were the greatest! I trained really hard!
Grandshelt Soldier C: It's okay to get excited, but you need to learn how to summarize.
(The soldiers laugh.)
Grandshelt Soldier A: Huh? Commander Lasswell, where's Commander Rain...?
Grandshelt Soldier B: You're right. Commander Rain's missing from this picture. Are you working separately today?
Lasswell: Rain...
(He gets a (...) over his head.)
Lasswell: Rain has gone somewhere far away for a while. Finding him won't be easy. But that doesn't mean he's gone for good. I'll find him, I promise. Rest assured.
Grandshelt Soldier A: Does that mean he's....
Grandshelt Soldier C: You're kidding, right? Commander Rain will....
Grandshelt Soldier B: Stop it! Commander Lasswell told us he'll find him. We just have to believe him!
Lasswell: (I had hoped that just maybe....)(But Rain hasn't returned to Grandshelt, has he...?)
Grandshelt Soldier B: H-hey! Now that you're back, Commander, how about training with us?
Grandshelt Soldier A: Uh, yeah! Great idea! You'll stop worrying when you see the results of our training!
(The soldiers come along the side of Lasswell.)
Lasswell: H-hey, what do you guys think you're doing?
Grandshelt Soldier C: Training! Castle grounds are off-limits, so let's head to Fulan Pass!
(They push Lasswell.)
Lasswell: Hold on, I haven't agreed to....
Grandshelt Soldier A: Come on! Make haste! Commander Lasswell's sword skills! Can't wait.
Trustworthy Soldiers (Battle)
(Battle immediately starts against two Grandshelt soldiers & a Grandshelt High Officer. There is no dialogue after you win.)
Reunion for Knights (Story)
(Lasswell swings his weapon at one of the soldiers, who falls to his knees. The other two are already crouched on the ground.)
Grandshelt Soldier A: Whoa, he's strong...
Grandshelt Soldier B: And I thought we'd become stronger, but compared to Commander Lasswell, we're nothing...
(The soldiers stand.)
Grandshelt Soldier C: Incredible, isn't it? With that much power, he's unstoppable!
???: You think so?
(The soldiers react with ! over their heads, and part to let two knights through.)
Lasswell: Charlotte! Lawrence! What are you doing here?
Charlotte: By sheer coincidence, we heard the soldiers talking. We came to take a closer look and I saw your display of swordsmanship.
Lawrence: Here we go again. You're always telling stories. The truth is, we heard you had an audience with the king. Then Charlotte said, "That Lasswell, he's going to run off again without saying hello!" ....So here we are.
Charlotte: Lawrence! Stop your nonsense!
Lawrence: Okay, okay. It's been a long time, huh, Lasswell? You look different, somehow.
Lasswell: I'm glad to see both of you in good health. Sorry... for not coming to look for you earlier.
Grandshelt Soldier A: It's not Commander Lasswell's fault! We forced him to come out here...
Charlotte: I know. I'm not blaming you lot for that. My concern is with a separate issue. Lasswell... It's about your sword.
Lasswell: My sword...?
Charlotte: I saw you battle the soldiers. There's o doubt that you've become stronger. However, there was uncertainty in the way you fought.
(Lasswell reacts with a ! over his head.)
Charlotte: ...You know what I'm talking about, don't you?
(Lasswell bows his head.)
Lasswell: That's...
(Charlotte draws her sword.)
Charlotte: If you don't know, I'll show you. Draw your sword. We'll spar with you.
Lawrence: Wha? Me too?
Charlotte: Of course! A fellow knight has lost his way. General Loren taught us to help one another.
Lawrence: Good grief. All you had to say was that you're just worried about Lasswell.
(Lawrence and Charlotte draw their swords.)
Lawrence: Sorry, Lasswell. As you heard, I'm with Charlotte for this one.
Lasswell: (Uncertainty.... My search for Rain.... Is that the uncertainty they sense...?)
Grandshelt Soldier B: Oh my! We get to witness a commander-class contest!
Grandshelt Soldier C: Ah, this is great! I won't miss a single scene of it!
(The soldiers back up to five the knights more room.)
Charlotte: Come on, Lasswell! Draw your sword! A knight of Grandshelt would never turn down a fight like a coward! Or have you even forgotten the fact that you are a knight?!
Lasswell: (Gah.... I have no choice. I don't want to do this, but...)(If fighting Charlotte and Lawrence will help me figure things out, then so be it!)
(He draws his sword.)
Lasswell: Here we go, Charlotte! Lawrence!
Bout Between Friends (Battle)
Lawrence: Planning on giving this all you've got, Charlotte?
Charlotte: Of course. Surely, Lasswell has grown stronger. But on the other hand, there still must be some mixed feelings he's unable to hide. I want to fight and find out!
Lawrence: ....How earnest of you.
(Battle commences! There is no dialogue after you win.)
Transparent Hesitation (Story)
Lawrence: Amazing... I wasn't that motivated to begin with, but now I'm fully focused. Lasswell.. You've truly become stronger.
(Lawrence turns his back and begins to leave.)
Lawrence: Well, it's over. I concede. Huh? Hey you two, we're done, right?
(Lasswell and Charlotte still have swords drawn. Charlotte now puts hers away.)
Charlotte: Lasswell. I've figured it out. I know the cause of your uncertainty.
(Lasswell puts his sword away as well.)
Lasswell: What...?
Charlotte: That sword on your back, Rain's sword. You didn't draw it once, did you?
(Lasswell reacts with a ! over his head.)
Charlotte: No.... It's not that you didn't. You couldn't draw it, could you?
Lasswell: ... (Charlotte's right. I haven't drawn the Crimson Saber yet, not even once...)(After battling with the Chaotic Darkness... When we lost Rain, and found this sword instead...)(I've carried it since, always believing that my role was to find Rain and return his sword...)(But it seems I still need something more to earn Crimson Saber' recognition.)(One of the reasons I came back to Grandshelt was to try and determine what I was lacking.)
Charlotte: Why don't you try saying something, Lasswell?
Lawrence: Now, now! This is a long-awaited reunion, there's no need to be so antagonistic. Lasswell's just back from a long trip, isn't he? He must be exhausted.
Charlotte: ...Okay. Lasswell. You don't plan on leaving any time soon, do you?
Lasswell: No. I was thinking of going back home, actually.
Lawrence: Then we're headed in the same direction. Let's go. We'll take a short detour. The rest of you can head back to the castle first.
Grandshelt Soldier A: Yes, sir. Take care.
Grandshelt Soldier B: Commander Lasswell! Thank you for that display!
Grandshelt Soldier C I'm gonna tell everyone about the amazing techniques we saw!
(The soldiers leave.)
Lawrence: All right! Let's head out, as friends!
Charlotte: ...
Lasswell: ...
Lawrence(grumbling): Good grief... You guys are so awkward together.
Shaking Heart (Story)
Lawrence: But really, that Rain... Sacrificing himself in order to defeat an impossible enemy....
Charlotte: That's... That's just what Rain would do. Any knight of Grandshelt would've been proud of that decision.
Lawrence: Well, I agree, and I'm also grateful. It's thanks to him that there's peace now. Ah. I wonder where Rain is now and what he's up to.
Charlotte: Knowing him, he'll just appear out of the blue one day.
Lasswell: (Neither one of them doubts that Rain is still alive...)(Of course, I also think that Rain is still alive.)(I think...)
Lawrence: Lasswell, what's with the glum face?
Charlotte: We're almost t our house. Don't look so depressed.
Lasswell: Uh, yeah. Got it. (Forget these stupid thought. All I have to do is find Rain.)(Rain is alive, somewhere.)(He must be...)
Prowling Arms (Battle)
(Battle beings against random enemies; there is no dialogue.)
Oath to Mother (Story)
(The three approach Lasswell's house. Lasswell stops at the fence and gets a (...) over his head.)
Charlotte: ...There's no way in?
(Lasswell turns back to look at the two.)
Lawrence: We'll be waiting here, so take your time.
Charlotte: The path here is yours and yours alone to take. And if anything happens, I'll be happy to listen to your troubles later. Now go, with valor.
(Lasswell nods.)
Lasswell: Thank you. I'll be right back.
(He enters the house.)
Lasswell: ...
(He looks around.)
Lasswell: (How long has it been since I last entered this house alone...?)(A house without Sophia, or Father, or Rain....)(The day we left on our journey seems like a lifetime ago.)(...Nothing's changed. Everything's as it was the day we left...)
Lasswell: That's...
Lasswell: (that's Sophia's favorite flower. It's still fresh.)(Of course. Father came back to this house too.)(I didn't want to come here alone... But I'm glad I did.)(I should be grateful that they were around for me.)(For the sake of this house, I swear, I will find Rain.)(So, please wait for just a while more.)(I'll be back soon, Sophia.)(..No.)
Lasswell: I'll be back soon, Mother.
A Nostalgic Journey (Story)
(Lasswell and Fina are near the statue in the Capitol.)
Lasswell: SO, what happened at the Earth Shrine? Nothing dangerous, apparently.
Fina: Yeah. I just told my other self about what happened afterwards. I told her she could count on me to find Rain.
Lasswell: I see. Well, I made the same promise to my family. I won't lose.
(Lasswell starts walking away.)
Fina: Sure! We'll give it our best shot! ...Ah! I just remembered!
Lasswell: Hm?
Fina: So, Lasswell... We might not be able to return to this world... to Lapis... for a while, right?
Lasswell: Yes, and? Does that bother you?
Fina: Do you remember our promise to Emma? That we'd see her again... sometime.
Lasswell: So that's it. Yes, it would be wise to take advantage of our free time. We have ample time before meeting up with the others. Let's head to Felicitas.
Fina: Yay! I hope Emma's all right. Can't wait to see her again!
The Hungry Mantis (Battle)
Lasswell: (It's Emma... the girl that was attacked by monsters in Ghost Port Kolobos.)(A lot happened with her and her mother, but in the end she was able to overcome the sadness.)(I'm sure she's living life to the fullest now.)(It's as Fin said, but I'm looking forward to reuniting with her...)
(Wave 1 of battle commences, and leads to wave 2.)
Fina: This path feels familiar... This is the path that Rian, you, Emma and I walked together, isn't it?
Lasswell: Yeah... seems so.
Fina: Tenet number 15!
Lasswell: !?
Fina: A knight's heart is ever humble. That's what you said, Lasswell!
Lasswell: I'm sure I said it.. But I still don't fully remember saying it....
Fina: Rain was with us... Everything looked so sparkly, everything was so much fun.
Lasswell: (Fina's the same as me...)(Perhaps she too is trying to hide the sad emptiness she feels not having Rain around...)
(Wave 2 of battle commences, and leads to wave 3.)
Lasswell: I remembered something about you, Fina. I remember you getting caught up saying that zombies weren't monsters.
Fina: Wow, well remembered!
Lasswell: Are you surprised?
Fina: I'm very surprised!
Lasswell: Hmph... (I'm not good at doing things like this...)(But as long as Fina's laughing, I have no problem doing it.)(As long a Rain isn't around, it's up to me to support Fina.)
(Wave 3 commences. There is no dialogue afterward.)
Emma's Encouragement (Story)
(The scene opens in Felicitas. Emma is at the top of some stairs. She reacts with a ! as she sees Lasswell and Fina enter the town. She runs down the stairs to them.
Emma: Lasswell! Fina! You came!
Fina: Emma! It's been a long time!
Lasswell: ou look well. And you're a bit taller, aren't you?
Emma: Wow! You noticed! Yes, I've grown just a tiny bit. ...Huh? It's just the two of you? Where's Rain?
Lasswell: Rain is...
(Lasswell bows his head. Fina steps closer to Emma.)
Fina: Rain is somewhere far, far away. That's why we're preparing to go get him now.
Emma: I see... I wanted to see him.
Lasswell: (...)
Emma: Lasswell? What's wrong? Is your tummy okay?
Lasswell: Yes... My apologies. I didn't mean to look so glum.
Emma: You don\'t have to say sorry. I was just worried about you, Lasswell, but I'm sure you're be fine. That's 'cause I know how incredibly strong you are!
Lasswell: Emma...
Young Boy 1: Hey, have you heard? You know, about the...
Young Boy 2: Yeah. Some zombie-like monsters seem to be coming from the shrine, right?
Young Boy 1: They're wandering around the reefs and interfering with fishing, apparently.
Young Boy 2: Wow, what a mess.
Emma: ...It's happening again? The same thing that happened to my mom... As if there isn't enough sadness already...
Fina: ...Lasswell.
Lasswell: Yes. I understand. I feel the same way you do, Fina.
(Lasswell turns to Emma.)
Lasswell: Emma. Trust in us. That tragedy will not be repeated. We won't allow it.
Emma: Lasswell...
Fina: Emma, just hold on and stay calm. We'll figure something out, I promise!
Lasswell: Let's go, Fina.
Fina: Okay!
(The two rush out of town.)
Eroded Bitemarks (Story)
Fina: Lasswell. This is...
(They're examining a dead sahagin.)
Lasswell: Those bite wounds are festering. Looks like the zombie rumors are true.
Fina: They're coming from that shrine, you think?
Lasswell: I'm certain of it. If they've come this far out, it's only a matter of time before they enter the town. We must find the point of origin, and deal with it.
Fina: (...)
Lasswell: ...Why are you staring at my face?
Fina: I felt it just now too, when you told Emma to trust in us... Something about you reminds me of Rain.
Lasswell: If Rain were here, that's what he would do. I'm just trying to imitate him. It's no big deal.
Lasswell, thinking: (In the past, Rain seemed thoughtless to me, but now, I understand how he felt, that's all.)
Lasswell, aloud: We mustn't waste any time. Fina, let's head to the shrine at once.
(They rush off.)
Lustrous Mold (Battle)
(The scene immediately opens in battle against random reef monsters. The first two waves pass without dialogue. At the third wave....)
Lasswell: Nngh, what's going on with these guys...!?
Fina: Seems only fire attacks word against these monsters... What should we do... Neither of us are really good at fire magic...
Lasswell: (And there's only two of us.)(But if fire is effective, then maybe if I use the Crimson Saber...!)
Lasswell: ....!?
Lasswell: (I can't get it out! ...Or rather, I'm not strong enough!?)(Could the crimson Saber be rejecting me...?)(Even though I kept doing as Rain did...)(It seemed it perceived my intention, I guess....?)
Fina: Lasswell, they're coming!
Lasswell: (Damn! Seems we'll have to do this without the Crimson Saber!)
(There is no dialogue after winning.)
The Stuck Sword
Fina: *Huff*. *Huff*... We made it, somehow... The monsters seem agitated too. There must be some bad guy causing trouble in the shrine, I guess?
Lasswell: Someone's creating the zombies and letting them out, that's for sure. We have to do something about this. Rain would never abandon people in trouble.
(Fina nods.)
Fina: Got it. It's just the two of us, but I'll do my best.
(She heads off.)
Lasswell: (If I could just draw the crimson Saber, I'd be able to take on any fight with ease...)(And I not a man worthy of wielding you, Crimson Saber?)
(Lasswell follows after Fina.)
Bearer of Bad Memories
(The two walk into the shrine. They pause and Lasswell reacts with a ! over his head.)
Lasswell: Over there!
(They rush forward to encounter a man at the controls of an experiment.)
???: Huh? Well, well. We get guests so rarely around here.
Fina: What are you doing over there?! Stay away, it's dangerous.
???: Heh heh heh. What danger are you talking about? Perhaps you're referring to my adorable experiments?
Fin: What the... Are you...
???: I, assistant to Dr. Lazarov, will make the whole world realize how wondrous this experiment is.
(He continues speaking.)
Lazarov's Asistant: Don't you think the ones in danger here are you, who would try to interfere?
Lasswell: So you're the perpetrator of this whole mess. I didn't think any of Lazarov's followers were still around.
Lazarov's Assistant: Oh? You know of Dr. Lazarov? Then we can get straight to the point. Using the research facility left by the professor, I'm going to create the strongest living weapon the world has ever seen.
Fina: I won't allow it!
Lasswell: That tragedy must never be repeated. Resign yourself to your fate. Our presence here means you have nowhere left to run.
Lazarov's Assistant: ...Hmmm. It seems you do not share my understanding of the professor's noble ideas.
(Lasswell and Fina turn around as zombies approach them from behind.)
Lazarov's Assistant: It is you, rather, who has nowhere left to run. Now then! My excellent living weapons! Let's give our guests a nice, toothy welcome!
Corpse Flood (Battle)
(You battle a wave of zombies. There is no dialogue.)
Crimson Blade
Lazarov's Assistant: What!? H-how can this be!? My adorable creations...
Laswell: It would appear victory is on our side.
(Lasswell steps closer to the man.)
Lazarov's Assistant: E-e-eek! Stop! Don't come any closer! I have to continue my research!
(A barrier appears between the man and Lasswell & Fina. All three are surprised with ! over their heads.)
Lasswell: Wh-what the!?
Lazarov's Assistant: O-oh! Experiment #10! It's you! You truly are my ultimate creation! My adorable child, protecting your father!
(Lasswell draws his sword.)
Lasswell: Gah... this is bad!
(He strikes the barrier, but nothing happens.)
Lazarov's Assistant: Miscreants! The lab tables have turned! Know this! My research will not end here, not by a long shot!
(Lasswell strikes the barrier twice more.)
Lazarov's Assistant: You struggle in vain! My zombies are coming, and they shall feast on your brains!
Fina: Lasswell! It seems the barrier is made of ice!
Lasswell: Ice...?
Lasswell: (In that case, the Crimson Saber may be able to break down the barrier!)(But can I get the Crimson Saber to respond to my will...?)
(The zombies approach!)
Lazarov's Assistant: Well? Do you surrender? If you beg for your lives, I might leave only half of your bodies untouched.
Fina: We'll never beg to you! What you're doing here is wrong! And we've come too far to lose to someone like you!
Lazarov's Assistant: Very well, then you shall all die! Die, and become part of my glorious research! Go on, my adorable zombies! Feed on these nauseating do-gooders!
(A zombie attacks Fina!)
Fina: Aah!
(She falls.)
Lasswell: Fina!
(A zombie attacks Lasswell, who falls to his knees.)
Lasswell: Gah! Damn it!
(He pulls out Purple Lightning. There is a flash of purple light as he dispatches the zombie who attacked him.)
Lasswell: (Damn... is this how it ends, being devoured by zombies...?)(No... how can I even think of that!? What would... What would Rain do in the face of despair?)(He would protect his friends and break through the enemy lines, all while wielding his sword with total resolve!)(And until we find Rain again, who's going to protect our friends?)(If not me, then who!?)
(The scene flashes white. A line of unattributed text appears.)
...It's in your hands, Lasswell.
(Lasswell stands.)
Lasswell: ...Yes.
(He draws his sword.)
Lasswell: I know what I have to do!
Lazarov's Assistant: H-huh? That fool suddenly had a strange look in his eyes... N-no matter! Go forth, my zombies! Leave no bit uneaten!
Lasswell: Rain may not be here right now! But his spirit burns bright within s!
(Lasswell begins to glow.)
Lasswell: And within... the Crimson Saber!
(Pyro Glacial Lasswell's CG movie plays, in which he draws the Crimson Saber. The barrier falls.)
Lazarov's Assistant: Th-that can't be! Experiment #10's barrier was destroyed!? How did he get the rest of my creations too!?
Lasswell: Prepare yourself, monster. I will spare you no mercy.
Lazarov's Assistant: D-don't be so smug, vile insect! I still have one card to play! Experiment #10! Protect your maker!
Azure Soul
Lasswell: ...Now I understand. Even though I say that I believe Rain is still alive... Deep in my heart I have doubt and fear... For you, Rain's blade, to be taken out by anyone but him... I have to recognize that Rain is no longer here. That's why I was unable to draw you out... You and Rain's spirit have always been alongside with me... Therefore... I think now I can finally wield you as I please! Alright then! Crimson Saber, lend me your power!
(Battle begins!)
To the Future
Lazarov's Assistant: I-impossible... impossible! My ultimate creation...
Lasswell: That's the end of your vile experiments. But we can't just leave you be either.
Fina: Are you taking him back to Grandshelt?
???: We'll handle that.
(Lasswell and Fina react with ! over their heads at this voice. Charlotte and Lawrence walk in with some Grandshelt soldiers.)
Lasswell: What are you all doing here...?
Charlotte: These past few days, we've had multiple reports of zombie showing up in Kolobos. The knights were asked to look into it. They may have been rumors, but we couldn't ignore them. After obtaining information from the residents of Felicitas, we came to investigate the shrine.
Lawrence: Although it seems you've gotten the jump on us, Lasswell.
Fina: Lasswell... are these your friends?
Lasswell: Yes. Friends I can trust.
Charlotte: Take this man into custody! He's an important prisoner. DO not let him out of your sight.
(The soldiers surround Lazarov's assistant and lead him away.)
Lawrence: We should head out as well. Lasswell, you must be tired. We'll take you home.
Charlotte: Lasswell.
Lasswell: Hm?
Charlotte: You don't look lost any more.
Lasswell: Charlotte...
Charlotte: That's all I wanted to say. Come, let's go. Everyone's waiting.
Lasswell: ...Yes. Let's.
(The scene shifts to the port of Kolobos. Emma stands between Charlotte and Lawrence.)
Lasswell: Thank you everyone. You've done so much for us.
Lawrence: So this is goodbye for now then. We'll miss you.
Emma: Lasswell, Fina. Thank you so much for everything!
Fina: Take care, Emma! Next time we come, Rain will be with us!
Emma: Okay Fina! That's a promise!
(Charlotte steps forward.)
Charlote: Don't worry about the zombie maker. We will make him pay for his crimes.
(Lasswell nods.)
Lasswell: Thanks. I'll leave him in your capable hands.
Charlotte: I regret that our paths must diverge, but I look forward to seeing you again.
Lawrence: Fina. Find Rain, okay?
(Lawrence steps forward.)
Charlotte: Lawrence, what do you think you're doing?
Lawrence: Just a goodbye kiss, on the back of her hand...
Charlotte: Have you no sense of decency!? When we return to the castle, I'm increasing your drills fivefold!
Lawrence: Whaat!? You can't be serious!
(Emma, Fina, and Lasswell laugh. The scene shifts to the ship at sea. Lasswell is standing by the railing. Fina comes up.)
Lasswell: Fina, this whole situation has made me realize something. It wasn't the Crimson Saber that was rejecting me. It was myself.
Fina: Yeah.
Lasswell: You knew?
Fina: No, but I always thought the idea of Rain's sword rejecting you was strange. So, I thought that maybe it was actually you who just hadn't realized something yet.
Lasswell: I see... Well, it seems you were right, I was too scared to face the reality that Rain is gone. Things have changed though. Rain is alive, I'm sure of that now.
(He bows his head.)
Lasswell: Back there, I thought I heard his voice, even if it was just for a moment. It might just be my imagination, but I felt as if he was there, giving me a push forward.
Fina: That's nice... I'm a little jealous. I wish I could have heard his voice, too.
Lasswell: You will when we find him.
Fina: Yeah! You're right!
Lasswell:" Fina, we will find him. And then I can return his sword.
Fina: Yeah!
(Lasswell turns and looks out to the sea again.)
Lasswell: (I don't need to worry about where we're going. No matter where we may be, I have such stalwart allies by my side.)(I can't let myself stop moving forward. No matter what obstacles may lie ahead, we will all move forward together.)(And one day, we will see Rain again.)

Pyro Glacial Lasswell's Story
Next story...
